MILWAUKEE — A 56-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of shooting his lawn mower because it wouldn't start.

Keith Walendowski was charged with felony possession of a short-barreled shotgun or rifle and misdemeanor disorderly conduct while armed.

Walendowski said he was angry because his Lawn Boy wouldn't start Wednesday morning, according to the criminal complaint.

"I can do that, it's my lawn mower and my yard so I can shoot it if I want," Walendowski told police.

A woman who lives at Walendowski's house reported the incident. She says he was intoxicated.

Walendowski could face up to an $11,000 fine and six years and three months in prison if convicted.

A call to Walendowski's home went unanswered this morning.

Man reaches plea deal after teen is fatally shot with AK-47 rifle

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — A 52-year-old Ripon man has reached a deal with prosecutors to avoid trial after a teen was accidentally shot and killed at his home.

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Michael O'Rourke says Michael Leber was scheduled for trial today but instead is expected to enter a plea of no contest or guilty to a charge of possessing a short-barreled rifle.

Evan Tolsma, 19, of Brandon is serving six months in jail for accidentally killing Jason Perry, 18, of Omro as the two played with an AK-47 assault rifle at Leber's home. Tolsma and Perry were best friends and visiting Leber's son.

Police responding to the shooting found a shotgun with an illegal sawed-off barrel. That is the gun Leber is accused of possessing.

A US man has injured himself in both legs after attempting to loosen a stiff wheel-nut by blasting it with his gun.
The 66-year-old man from Washington state was repairing his car outside his home when the accident took place.

Shooting at the wheel from arm's length with his 12-gauge shotgun, he was peppered with buckshot and debris.

The man - who police say was on his own and not intoxicated - was taken to hospital with severe, but not life-threatening, injuries.

The man, from South Kitsap, 10 miles (16km) southwest of Seattle, had been repairing his Lincoln Continental for two weeks, according to the police, and had removed all but one of the nuts on the right rear wheel.

Frustrated by the one remaining nut which refused to budge, he resorted to fire power in an effort to shift it.

"He's bound and determined to get that lug nut off," said Deputy Scott Wilson, a spokesman from the sheriff's office.

He sustained injuries from his feet to the middle of his abdomen, with some pellets reaching as high as his chin, police said.
