I dropped my van off this AM at their service center in Coon Rapids because one of their customers piled into the back of it Friday morning in the rain.

They have a very wordy and small sign on their doors and at their driveway. I'm pretty sure it's a direct quote from their policy manual. It's very lawyer-esque.

Funny, you'd think one of their own actuaries could tell them that permit-holders are far less likely to commit a crime.

I'll get a picture later when I go back.

[UPDATE] Here is the picture.

Image

The sign says:
Quote:
Unless otherwise authorized by law, no person shall possess, have under the person's control, convey, or attempt to convey a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance onto these premises

They also have it on a small sticker on the entrance doors.

Another completely meaningless sign along the lines of the Hennepin County Library signs: "We ban guns unless you are legal."

Hi Dean! You're not required to use them to fix your van. Sometimes, insurance companies like to steer folks to shops that they have deals with. You can take your van anywhere you want to go. They don't like folks to know that. All you have to say is, "No, I'm taking it over here, etc."

Oh sure - I knew that. They told me about 10 times. I didn't know about the sign until I got there. I was a Progressive customer for years and had no idea.

They make it so easy though, they are hard to refuse. You drive up, drop off your car, sign a sheet and jump into the rental.

Of course they ban guns... they are progressive.

Well, I swtched to GEICO, so now I am enriching Warren "Beelzebub" Buffet instead of the ACLU.

Actually, I'm gonna go a little against the grain here and say that the sign looks like it condones carrying under the MPPA. It's that first line that caught my attention.

As much as I dislike Progressive, the sign appears to me to say legally permitted persons and their firearms are welcome.

I don't think it says they are welcome. I think whichever corporate lawyer composed the wording for the sign is just dumb. The sign is more pointless than any other sign barring the Hennepin County Library signs.

That or the lawyer is dumb like a fox and is actually pro-gun and slipped this by the idiot managers to make them feel good. I really doubt that.

OK, I'll retract the word "welcome". You maybe right about the sly fox lawyer.
