Was I supposed to get a cape and tights with my permit??

It varies by county. In Hennepin, you get a scarlet letter.

Yes, two times in the past ten years.

And Dave, if you dont know goalie's story, you should.

You still think I should have talked to the TV reporters, don't you?

Well, sure. Not only is it a good -- and very typical -- self-defense story, but you are the poster child for "responsible, law-abiding citizen." You've got everything but the cape and tights.

Ok, Ok. You got me plenty interested. I’m I the only one who doesn't know the story?

Can it be told? Please...

In a nutshell, I was driving to work at Abbott one night when a kid/young man with a gun jumped out in front of me and tried to carjack me. I was armed and he ran away when he looked up and saw me pointing a gun at him through my window. I called 911 and was met at the hospital by police. I was treated less than cordially.

I will say this, if the MPD is willing to mess with a clean-cut guy wearing scrubs (NOT a cape and tights!!!) in the conference room of the ICU where he is working that night, well, you had damn well better dot your i's and cross your t's in Minneapolis. Remember, it is their job to gather the evidence to put YOU in jail. I am fully convinced that, had I shot the assailant, and been fully justified in doing so, instead of enjoying my new pontoon boat this summer I would have still been on the lake in my kayak, and my lawyer would have been buying the pontoon boat.

As for being the "poster child" of law-abiding, I guess I wouldn't go that far, but I have never had any run-ins with the law, I served honorably in the Corps, and I am currently an RN. It might be a little difficult to paint a male nurse who defends himself on the way to work as a bloodthirsty gun nut out looking for trouble with an itchy trigger finger, as the media seems inclined to do.

Unbelievable!

When did this happen?

"Less than cordially"?

Back when I made a dishonest living as a reporter, I would have zeroed in on that phrase. You know, gazing at you curiously while rhythmically tapping my pencil on my pad.

What did the police do, exactly?

Far from doubting you, I just want to know what they said, did, and so on. Sounds like it would make a great story in itself -- almost as good as warding off the dirtwad who tried to carjack you.
