Post subject:  Everything You Need to Know... In Bookstores?

I did a search and didn't seem to be able to find this topic discussed before - if it has been, my apologies.

I was at the local Gander Mountain today looking for a pocket holster and ended up chatting with a gentleman about concealed carry and Minnesota reciprocity. He had taken a carry course a few years back but rarely carries, however he was in the market for a .380 (he was looking at the Ruger LCP) and wanted to know if he could carry in South Dakota with his Minnesota permit.

In typical gun store fashion, someone else walked up and asserted that you could only carry in Minnesota with a MN permit, and that to get a TX or UT permit you had to travel to those states to take a test. This sounded wrong to me, but not wanting to be the source of further bad info, I directed him to Joel's book, and of course, twincitiescarry.com.

The guy would have picked up a copy of the book then and there, but Gander doesn't stock it, and a quick call to the large chain bookstore down the street revealed they didn't have it either.

Is their retail distribution of the book, and if so, which stores are carrying it? I can think of about 6 reasons why it wouldn't be in book stores, but it never hurts to ask, right?

Far as I know, none of the retail chains are carrying it. I sent a review copy to Gander, some years ago, suggesting that they might want to sell some, but nothing ever came of it -- and I think, once they started their Gander Instructor Program (the GIP was not a huge success) they probably decided to have one of their employees write one for them.

My house has two copies - I was thinking for people who either a) didn't get one in their class or b) are interested in understanding more about the issues without spending quite as much time/money as a class takes.[/quote]

I was only joking with you. I knew you could find a source to get the book. I always charge cover price plus 5 cents because I hate having to find change when I am teaching a class.

I seem to have lost my internet-fu if I can't detect snark on an internet chat board. :(

Try the library. I found it in the Cottage Grove branch of the Washington County library.

You can buy it from the publisher at this URL:
http://www.aacfi.com/products/MNEveryth ... ToKnow.php.

The book should reach you in Minnesota in five days or less.

Hmm..when I have a source of income above my cost-of-living again, I'll be looking into donating a copy or three to libraries around the state...any particular time of year that would be extra-beneficial to do this? (That a letter or other attention could be drawn?)

Any books that are bought from me to be donated to libraries can be bought at my out-of-pocket cost.

As to when, any time is fine -- just be sure that the library will actually shelve the donated book. (Some won't.)

Has the book been updated at all? Are there different versions out?
