Consuming Alcohol solves nothing. It could create more problems. Imagine talking to the police with booze on his breath. Who knows what the cops might do next.

Alcohol and guns don't mix!!!!

Jim - you completely mistook what I said. I did *NOT* tell him to have a drink while he was waiting for the cops.

(Voluntarily self-edited to remove knee-jerk retort to a knee-jerk response)

I think I understood exactly what you meant Dean. With all due respect to him and his right to his opinions, JimC has voiced his sentiments before.

[off topic] The other day I read about the misfortune of Mr. Harold Fish, an Arizona schoolteacher sentenced to 10 years after shooting an “unarmed man.” His legal costs are $500.000 currently … htttp://www.haroldfishdefense.org [/off topic]

Mr. Fish's problem started when he OPENED HIS MOUTH and began speaking to the police. By the time he got an attorney the damage was done.

If you shoot someone, SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Say no more than:
Quote:
(1) My name is John Doe and I live at 123 Main Street, Apple Valley, Minnesota. I have a Minnesota permit to carry a firearm.
(2) That man (pointing) attacked me with a (describe weapon, if any). His conduct caused me to believe I faced an imminent threat of death or serious injury.
(3) I defended myself against that threat. Thank God that I was successful in saving my life.
(4) Although I would like to answer all your questions, NOW I am going to remain silent until I speak to my attorney. May I call him NOW on my cell phone?

THEN SHUT UP. Only you can keep your mouth shut.

If you need to memorize the quoted paragraph and learn to say it automatically, like a parrot, do so.

This cannot be stressed enough. Going to jail is no big deal. Staying there or going to prison is :!:

Thank you for that kimberman. I'm looking at what you wrote and I've modified it for myself with my own emphasis:

YOU NEED TO MEMORIZE THE QUOTED PARAGRAPH AND LEARN TO SAY IT AUTOMATICALLY, LIKE A PARROT :!:

I've got a short, less eloquent version memorized.

Here goes:

"LawyerLawyerLawyerLawyerLawyerLawyerLawyerLawyer"

I'm pretty sure I can manage to remember that when adrenaline has me at my dumbest.

Yeah, I just don't trust myself to remember a speech when my nerves are frayed and adrenaline is coursing and I have flashing lights and police everywhere.

My response is gonna be something along the lines of

Quote:
Ummm, er......ehhh, ummm, lawyer?!???

And I'll have called him about 0.000000000000000000001 seconds after I called the police.

+1 (almost, but close enough...in this circumstance)

From safely inside the house: a bright light and a camera. Then call the police, and post the picture (or video) on the net and make another copy before turning them over (in case the police decide it's easier to lose the evidence).
