They're getting cameras! Everything will be fine.
http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S95890.shtml?cat=1
Quote: U of M students targeted in recent robberies Two-teenage gunmen are wanted for two separate attacks early Friday.
In both incidents, female University of Minnesota students were targeted.
The first robbery happened at University Village at around 2 a.m. and the second robbery was not even mile away at University Commons.
A University Commons resident said crime his common at her apartment.
"Yeah, we've actually had a lot of break-ins before I know my friends car got broken into and I've heard about muggings," Katie Oldeen said.
Because so many of their students live at University Village, the University of Minnesota Police department is considering installing their own cameras.

This will probably escalate too...2 gunMEN, 1 female target both times. What happens if "next time" isn't just a robbery? Or if they get a chance for more than just robbing females?

Cameras are nice for identifying crooks after the fact if said crooks don't plan well to avoid video ID. We've all seen enough police video or security footage of criminals committing crimes that we should as a culture understand that cameras do not act as a useful deterrent to dangerous or determined criminals.
If the U of M people in charge of making this decision DO understand this principle, it is irresponsible (and worse) of them to suggest to those likely to be chosen as targets that cameras will have a protective effect.

The film footage will aid the police in filling out the "report" and that will stop crime in it's tracks. Maybe they should declare the entire metro area a safe zone. That will show them who's boss.

The campus police will use the cameras to identify the crime correctly.
That's an assault........that's aggravated robbery.........that's public drunkeness.................another useful tool in their crime fighting bag.

The campus police need to get advice/instructions from the Mpls police and set up a lemonade stands on the campus. Then crime will be a thing of the past at the school.

I think they should setup midnight basketball at Williams arena. That will clearly resolve the issue.

Wow, I live within SHORT walking distance from campus right now.... on the 1st floor too. I'm definitely gonna keep myself armed no matter what. There were a few incidents where my gun was either in my car or locked in the room, no more of that I guess. that and no walking around campus at night....

Nope. Guns don't solve problems.
More people who were willing to take responsibility for their own safety would help. Whatever tools they decide to use for that job would be up to the individual.

Where this happened is not on campus property so no cameras and no reports against there numbers of "on campus" attacks.
