The story isn't that great. So, I won't post everything.
Background- My friend "D" who is black, carries openly. He does it so when people will think along the lines of "if he's a criminal, he wouldn't have it showing". Also, he's good with conversation, so if it's a conversation starter, he'll have them convinced to carry guns.
Incident- We were at perkins and he walked past 2 Minnetonka cops eating. They asked him about the gun, I think they even asked "Is that a gun?", and said "I think it has to be concealed". The officer took the "I'm not sure, but I think it does" approach. The other officer was takening down my friend's info (permit, DL), he didn't say anything.

That said, MADFI would be glad to help educate the Minnetonka PD. It's worked well so far with other departments that need some polite explainificating.
Is "explainificating" even a word?
I have run into a couple of different department officers, namely SLP and GV, with out any issues with open carry. But I agree, that if individual officers have questions about this they should be educated.

Personally, I find it odd that LEOs can't grasp the law. It seems pretty simple.

Is "explainificating" even a word?
I think Ricky Ricardo used it quite a bit

My biggest fear is how my first traffic stop while carrying will go... I read stories on other forums about cops bringing people out of their cars at gunpoint because (I assume?) they don't know any other way to handle the situation. These are the people who need to be educated, and rest assured I will be more than happy to write letters to the department (and to MADFI!!) after such an encounter to express my displeasure.
I would even be displeased if an officer disarmed me during a traffic stop. This is completely unacceptable as well.
I do look forward to the time when I encounter a pro-gun officer who couldn't care less that I'm carrying (legally, of course).

As I've mentioned before, I've had three encounters (a fender bender and two speed stops ) with the police since I started carrying.
In all three cases, the Minneapolis traffic officer, the State Patrol officer, and the Eden Prairie officer were utterly unconcerned and polite when I politely and preemptively told them I was carrying.
Doesn't hurt that I'm a middle-aged white guy, I suppose, but I'd hope the reaction would have been the same if I were neither white nor middle-aged.

Just hearing that helps quite a bit to put my mind at ease... I do, of course, plan to be fully cooperative and volunteer my permit if I'm carrying.
Thanks!

*cough* "The other officer was takening down my friend's info..."
That might explain Andrew's choice of words.

Hmm, I'm usually a good speller.
If Andrew was making fun of me, it was subtle. I was getting a kick out of all the words he was making up.
