<img src="http://ww2.anokacounty.us/v3_jail/data/426077_31.jpg" height="200" width"250"> A Blaine man who struck a woman in the head with a hammer has pleaded guilty in Anoka County District Court to a first-degree assault great bodily harm charge.
In a plea agreement at a court hearing June 27, Mohamed Abdiomar, 36, 12482 Hastings St. N.E., entered his guilty plea to the second of two felony counts.
The first charge, attempted murder in the first degree (intentional) will be dismissed at sentencing Aug. 13.
Blaine Police responded to a residence in the city the evening of Nov. 16, 2007, following a 911 call in which a male said he had just hit a woman in the head with a hammer and she was laying on the floor, according to the complaint.
On arrival, police found a woman on the floor, an adult male, identified as Abdiomar, and two children, ages 7 and 3 at the time, who were screaming hysterically. An infant was asleep in a crib upstairs.
Police arrested Abdiomar, who had blood stains on his hands and pants.
The woman was lying on her back, not moving or talking, covered in blood and with blood spilling from her face and head. She had numerous deep lacerations on her head and skin had been sheared off from the area of her right temple, which appeared to be depressed.
A police officer administered CPR and was able to obtain air flow and she started breathing normally.

I'll say it now and spare everyone the trouble: Quick! Ban assault hammers!
Poor kids.

Sounds like he got a decent deal:
Plead guilty to the Assault 1 and the State dismisses the attempted murder charge.
Attempted murder charges are generally tough to get out from under at trial.
