We are shooting at Del Tone range outside St Cloud again this year. We will register and set up at 9:45am, and want to start shooting by 10:30am.

Keith Cekalla, CSO will be match director and I'll be president, treasurer and the scorer, all with assitance from our fellow shooters.

Match dates are pretty firm as:

Sunday, April 9

Sunday, May 28

Sunday, June 25

Saturday July 29 Classifier

Sunday, August 6

Sunday, September 3

Sunday, Oct 29

Cost for the first gun will be $15. Details at http://www.twincitiesidpa.com/

If it matters, it looks like the July match is on the same weekend as the Glock shoot.

Yes, it is, but we have many smart people (Glock Shooter=smart, see my avitar) in the club. I'm hoping they will go to GSSF on Saturday. Sunday they bring their just cleaned guns to our match and show us how its done.

Of course, we'd also allow shoot thru for folks who could not make GSSF on Saturday.

I am very pleased to report that, through the generous efforts of Ry4an (not a typo) Brase, we have a website again. It's basic, but s/b easy to maintain and update, and we are grateful Ry4an made time to rebuild the site for the club. Come see the new site at our old home

Thanks, Bob. I do hope to make it to another meet sometime, but sadly it won't be this weekend either.

The match starts with registration at 9:45am and shooting should start about 10:30am. New shooters and shooters signing the waiver/membership form should plan on arriving early. We'll be on site by 9:30am.

In past years Paul Braun has allowed us to do informal shooting after the match or do short side matches. We have asked to keep the large range after first and second guns are done and hold a simple stage or two with a "black" or service rifle. Scoring will be totally separate from the IDPA match, the charge will be zero. However, in honor of Memorial Day, it has to be an AR type rifle. We'll use IDPA targets and set up a course or two to give you a channce to try your service rifle. We have asked and when Paul gives us an answer, we'll post it here.

In honor of Memorial Day we will be adding a separately scored short
rifle course at the end of the regular IDPA match on Sunday May 28,
2006. We plan to just use our one large bay and Keith Cekalla will
work out a COF or two for the semi auto rifle folks. Bring a 100
rounds, you'll have plenty at that level. There will be no charge
for the rifle portion, if you competed in the regular match.

Our newer members should be warned we often will hold an optional or
side match like above and we always announce them in advance.

Ipersonally plan to run a Lethal Force Institute Qualifier after one
of our matches. This is Massad Ayoob's 90 shot test that uses an
USPSA target at various distances and positions, ie hand on the
holstered gun, strong hand, weak hand, etc. Single speed is
interesting, where you have like 8 seconds to fire 6 shots (its
revolver neutral) close in starting with your hand on the gun, 2x
means you have 4 seconds, 3x 2 2/3 seconds and yes 4X gives you two
seconds. It's easy to score and we shoot in a firing line so it
goes quickly. We'll do a single sppeed and a double speed for sure,
maybe a triple,if some feel like it.

Keith Ulfers came up with a Classifier set up for the BUG guns,
which IDPA limits to 5 rounds and short barrels, so its challenging
and fun. Also look for Cekalla to slip a J frame into a stage or
maybe have a short BUG course at the end of one of our matches.

Please send Keith or I your ideas,we partcularly like quailfiers
like the LFI and Air Marshals test.

Bottom line, if the sun shines or if its just not pouring, we'll
have some IDPA style fun this year.

Would you care to elaborate on what the course might be like, i.e. what are maximum ranges we'd engage at, would we fire while moving, are there caliber limitations, are there magazine limitations/requirements, scopes allowed/required/prohibited, etc...

The only rifle I have that might work is an M1. This wouldn't require an AR/AK style would it?

I assume by "short rifle" course you don't mean there is a length limitation on the firearm.

Sorry I put everything Keith gave me in the note. IDPA has no provisions for rifle/shotgun courses so it will be whatever Keith decides and he is fishing in Canada.

That said I don't think he intends scope, mag, cailber limtations, just an informal course that can't be further back than the berms so its 40+ yards or less. I think Keith does intend they be service type rifles, no 22's, butI'm just guessing based on what they generally shoot, but I'm no rifle guy.

So this Saturday is the Classifier shoot at Del Tone. I'm hoping to attend. It will be my first classifier. Could someone please fill me in on the following questions:

- Is the Classifier the only COF shot that day, or will there be the usual scenarios in addition to the classifier?

- If it is both the Classifier and scenarios, which will be shot first?

Guess I'd better bring a lot of ammo

Can't speak for Bob and the crew but I'm guessing that the classifier will be the only thing going on that day. It is plenty of shooting and it will take a while to shoot all 90 rounds. Bring extra ammo as the classifer is the only time in IDPA that you get to reshoot strings if you or your gun malfunctions. Bring at least 200 rounds.

He is entirely correct and we only allow one gun for the Classifier. Plan on several hours at the range. Stage 3 the barricade shooting at 20 yards is where most of us have trouble, not that the head shots are easy!

Note to others the Classifier is a very good test of defensive shooting skill. You must be a member of International IDPA to shoot it and it definitely not a good intro to defensive shooting for persons just trying out action shooting

Well that was fun :D

Thanks to Bob, Keith, and all the others who set up and run the IDPA shoots. Remember guys they aren't getting paid to do this.

I made sure to get a legal holster in time for the classifier, and then... nobody bothered checking me. I could have snuck through with my old Kydex anyway

I was fairly confident I'd be able to make Marksman, and was holding out a slim chance of having a good enough day to make Sharpshooter. I missed Sharpshooter by about 10 seconds. Oh well, I shot pretty good (for me) so I guess I can't complain. And I suspect I'll discover in future classifiers that 10 seconds is a bigger gap than it seems, so that I wasn't really that close.

I see this Johann fellow just missed Expert by about a second, and that he was previously unclassified. That's certainly an impressive debut.

We are finalizing the fall/winter shooting schedule. Our next match is Sunday evening November 26 from 4:45pm to 9:00pm. That's correct, we take over the entire range after they close and shoot 3 or 4 IDPA courses of fire. Cost is $15 + tax.

We do have membership and training requirements as an approved member club and as the International Defensive Pistol Association. Details are on our website at www.twincitiesidpa.com Our training requirement is failry straight forward and nececessary for safety. TC IDPA requires the proven ability to draw safely from the holster and recent formal tactical training, LEO, Military, LFI, Gunsite, Bill's tactics courses or similar. A carry permit alone is not sufficent! Have questions? Please contact vpadmin@twincitiesidpa.com
