Im going to really try to make my first IDPA match this weekend.
How long does the typical match last?
Maybe a better question is how long do you spend at a match forgetting about drive time?

It depends on a lot of things obviously, but if you are there to help set up and tear down, you'll probably spend 3 or so hours total at the range.

Yeah, the Faribault Wednesday night matches, where I usually shoot, start around 5:30 (I think -- I'm almost never on time since I have to leave work), and end promptly at 8 per range rules. They'll let you shoot if you get there by 6:30 or 7. Then there's helping to tear down targets and such, and some optional socializing afterwards, like last week we grilled hot dogs. So, yeah, three or four hours.

Thanks I'd say 3+ hours is typical for Twin Cities' outdoor matches and we pride ourselves on organized setups and teardowns and quick turnaround on the scores.
On the shooting time issue Keith pays the same amount I do to shoot the match. However, my cost per second is much lower<g>.
Approved new shooters should be on the range by 8:45am. You need to be registered ( sign waivers - you shoot yourself it's YOUR fault) pay your fees and get into the new shooters briefing that lasts 15 to 30 minutes.
We do need and appreciate help with set up and teardown. It's a volunteer sport and you you get to talks guns while doing it!

Make sure you bring fluids to stay hydrated and something to snack on. It sounds like it is going to be a hot this weekend! TCIDPA is a great bunch and you will have a great time!
Don't forget the sun screen!

Hmm there are a few more around here that shoot IDPA then I suspected.
Sort of obvious that there is some overlap.

Tomorrow is going to be 95F. You will be standing between large berms most of the day, thus even if there is wind you won't get much of it. And if I am thinking of the correct course of fire, concealment will be required for each string.
Drink lots of water today. Load up before you leave tomorrow, and bring a lot.
