So damn stupid and unnecessary...
"Police said Dennis had stopped by to show off the handgun Friday night but did not know how semiautomatic pistols worked. He pulled the slide back, ejecting a round. Dennis then thought the gun was unloaded, but did not know another round is automatically inserted into the chamber when the slide moves forward again. According to investigators, Dennis pointed the handgun at Bartuoh and, thinking the gun was unloaded, pulled the trigger."

...and now a follow up...let me see if I can help Mr Webb answer his own question and better understand what happened. Pointing a loaded gun at another human being and pulling the trigger is not an accident - it is murder...again, what a damn waste.
Webb said Bartuoh is the first student to die in his 11 years at the high school. "There's no explaining this, it isn't the goal," Webb said. "I think the goal is supporting each other right now. I don't think anyone can understand what happened. It just sounds like it was an accident."

20 year old in MN . . . was legally in posession of that handgun he didn't know how to opperate? I wonder if it was one from the Gunstop Heist? Wouldn't that be ironic.
Seems like those gun laws weren't strick enough. .. .  Obviously if we had more stringent gun laws a clueless 20 year old wouldn't pop a cap in his best friend "just playing around".

Another reason hunter safety,gun safety should be mandatory in Mn Public schools. I would sixth grade at the latest.

No doubt both of them were just starting to turn their lives around. Such a tragedy. I sure am glad that I know enough about firearms that I make sure they are unloaded before I pull the trigger after aiming at my friend/relative/neighbor/spouse/child. We play that game a lot. Don't all of you?

If no gun training in schools, at the VERY LEAST, all schools should make it clear to always treat a gun as if it's loaded!

Should we as a group talk to our local schools and offer to teach a basic gun safety course as part of the regular school schedule? They could incorporate it into their phy ed classes or something.

Obviously this is the fault of the high capacity(anything greater than 0+1) aspect of the weapon. If Glock had supplied a socially responsible magazine with the gun he would not have had to shoot his friend.
