Gives the term "firearms possession" a new meaning, I suppose.

Makes those CA single shot ARs sound real scary.

+1, but, who said it was a Glock?

If it was a Ruger, then, ban ALL Rugers!

Saw the article, and the shooter's picture, and thought : What a truly dumb POS!!!

Lurking below the surface, interestingly enough, was the unconscious assumption that the gun only DID hold one only round. Gee - pull the slide back, ONE round comes out, so now it must be unloaded!?! Where did all the rest of those rounds go???

So how many gun safety rules had to be broken for this to happen (all)? If the most basic of things that responsible people teach others about guns had been followed this COULD NOT have happened! A little simple education could've prevented this, but I am sure another law/or ban would work way better.

First rule I was taught, TREAT EVERY GUN AS IF IT WERE LOADED.

Second rule, refer to rule # 1

20-year-old man sentenced for Nov. 2008 accidental shooting of Fridley High School student
BY SARAH PETERSON SUN FOCUS
(Created: Wednesday, July 22, 2009 11:33 AM CDT)
A 20-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday, July 21, for the Nov. 14, 2008, fatal shooting of an 18-year-old student at Fridley High School. The shooting was initially identified as an accident.

Samuel Kelich Dennis was sentenced on 2nd-degree manslaughter to four years' stayed prison time, which means that he is on probation for 10 years, Assistant Anoka County Attorney Wade Kish explained. Dennis will serve one year of local jail time at the Anoka County Jail, Kish said.

Dennis was taken into custody yesterday to begin serving his time. His release date is set for February 9, 2010, because he already served some jail time when he was arrested after the incident last fall and, with good behavior, he would only have to complete eight months of jail time.

Additionally, Dennis will have to contribute 20 hours of community service every year near the date of the incident, Nov. 14, and pay restitution of $6,500 for the victim's funeral expenses.

Kish gave this account of the incident:

Police were called to a shooting Friday night, Nov. 14, where they found Dennis giving resuscitation efforts to Emmanuel Bartouh. Dennis told police that he had been showing to his friend a gun that he thought was unloaded. Dennis pointed the gun at Bartouh's chest and pulled the trigger, accidentally killing his friend.

Dennis pleaded guilty to 2nd degree manslaughter, which is when negligence causes the death of another person.

Fridley High School Principal Dave Webb remembered Bartouh as a good student and athlete after the accident.

"He was a good role model," Webb told Sun Focus Nov. 18, 2008. "He did set an example for others to live up to."

The Question I have is wouldn't it be illegal under federal law for a 20 year old to purchase a handgun since the law say you need to be 21 to purchase a handgun from a licensced dealer. Or did he get around that by buying from a private party or was it a stolen gun. The article never talked about how the handgun was obtained. by the way IANWAL. Just looking for clarification on how he would have obtain the gun. if the gun was obtained illegally why didn't they add charges for that.

21 to purchase from a licensed dealer, but 18 to own. So there is no law broken when it comes to his age and his possession of the handgun.

Please read again. They're referring to the dead friend, not the shooter.

It happened a short while after that GunStop was burglarized and I had postulated at the time that it may have been some of the booty from that "job". While it hasn't been said (in any paper) that is the case, it hasn't been confirmed that it isn't the case. While there are ways for an under 21 year old to legally aquire a handgun . . . I am doubtful in this case, that it was legal.

As much as I hate additional rules or regulations, perhaps an IQ test should be part of the gun buying process (yes, I understand he probably bought the gun privately vs. at a dealer).

How stupid can you be, point the gun at your friend and pull the trigger! It always amazes me how ingrained it is some people that with a gun - you pull the trigger, that's what you do with a gun. It seems to be almost automatic for some people...they want to pull the trigger. I've gotten so if I end up showing my gun to someone (rare, usually only a family member, etc) that, after unloading it I hand it to them and specifically tell them DO NOT point it at anyone, and DO NOT pull the trigger.

Today's lesson, boys and girls, is this: Don't have stupid friends. It's too dangerous.
