Okay, aside from the murder of this baby, I don't know what is worse:
This part?
"Liberty County Chief Deputy Ken DeFoor said Sheila Muhs fired a 12-gauge shotgun once, then handed it to her husband, who also fired once."
This part?
"when they were shot after stopping so the children could go to the bathroom"
Or this freekin' part?!?
The Houston Chronicle reported that a sign in front of the suspects' home reads: "Trespassers will be shot. Survivers will be reshot!! Smile I will."
I will respect the readers of this board, but "F" "F" "F" - I mean seriously??? Gun owners like this need to get off my damn side...

I think we've all seen "trespassers will be shot," "insured by Smith & Wesson," "never mind the dog," and other signs that fail to make up in humor what they lack in taste. They're standard gun shop fare, and I don't think it's possible to spend more than five minutes in a gun shop without hearing this sort of attitude espoused by a patron or denizen of the place.
Many in the firearms community could afford to clean house in this regard.
Perhaps this would be a good time for each of us to look inward and contemplate whether there is anything we do, overtly or by omission, to encourage attitudes like this.

I saw that article...
With friends like that, we don't need enemies.
I've got nothing against country life (I married a farmer's daughter, and I've got relatives in Texas...), but I think in the dictionary under "hick", there are pictures of these two folks.

"Bishop said the district attorney could upgrade the charges to murder on Monday, but investigators were "still trying to get the circumstances behind the incident"
I certainly hope they do upgrade the charges to murder!! I hope they toss in a charge of First Degree Criminally Stupid also. Idiots.

Then there's this:
Quote: Sheila Muhs then called 911 and told the dispatcher: "They're out here tearing up the levee, so I shot them."

Yeah. I'm not sure we're dealing with even double-digit IQs here.

10 to 1 odds they were drunk/stoned at the time.

Squeeze trigger, BANG, repeat. Kind of boring, but I never cared for drama.

While the typical firearm owner would despise these ignorant knuckle dragging morons, the media and the anti-gunners will use them to stereotype all firearm owners.

Looking at these 45 year olds might lead me to think there's some meth involved as well!

Yup, Meth.
That said, I do have a problem with ATV riders who cut fences and destroy fruit trees (and any other flora in their way), tear down no tresspassing signs on private property. I can understand the desire to get fairly aggessive after so much repeated damage, over a course of years, on surveyed, verified, fenced and posted private property.
But those are two very different sides to the issue of ATVs.

But those are two very different sides to the issue of ATVs. I own property in northern MN and have had a lot of problems with ATV riders doing the things you describe. I have been working with the USFS (my property is bordered on 3 sides by National Forest land) and the Township to close roads and restrict access. The ATV problem is aggravating and frustrating to landowners but shooting them it beyond drastic. It's - what's the word- murder. True.
