I was just reading some of the anti's propaganda and got to wondering what the total number of people in the U.S. that have some from of a permit/CCW license? I have seen the number of MN permits and used it on occasion when discussing the issue with people but have never heard a national number. (Sorry if this is posted somewhere on here but I could not find it )

Oh here is the story that got me thinking
http://www.vpc.org/studies/ccw2009.pdf

In a nutshell it shows that 31 permitted individuals killed 57 people over a 2 year period. So what percentage of the whole does this number make up?
(I have my suspicions that it is minuscule but that was not mentioned in this report.)

No, it alleges that. Turns out that they are big, fat liars.

See John Pierce's "Lies, damn lies and VPC statistics" for details.

There's more to come, too. Just wait.

My bad, that is what I meant.

But even if it were true (not saying that it is) that still has to be a fraction of a fraction of a percent.

This is all I have been able to find.

# 57 on this site http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.p ... 874&page=3

and http://www.legallyarmed.com/ccw_statistics.htm

Anyone else have an idea of how to get even a rough idea of this?

I think it is important to concede up front that not all permit holders are saints. We do live in a fallen world and gun owners were thrown out of the garden along with everyone else.

I don't believe reliable nationwide statistics are available, since some states keep records in a deliberately obfuscatory manner in the interest of privacy and to avoid inadvertent furtherance of any future gun grab.

One way to look at it is to compare the rate of felonies/murders/parking tickets (circle one) on the part of permit holders in those states that do report accurate counts of permit holders to the rate in the general population of that state. By such measures, permit holders are about as clean as doctors or airline pilots.

Mostly, you can probably add Clergy to that list.

I'm a little surprised by those numbers. I would never have suspected such huge numbers of permit holders in some of the states accounted for, particularly New England. Like 224,000 in Massachusetts. Wow.

Is that just because the permit process has been available for so many years there and we've only had about five in MN, like we're playing catch up?

I think that's exactly it. Washington State has ove 320,000 IIRC and Florida has something right around 600,000.
