Not to take away from Corp. Reynolds incredible accomplishment but I thought the longest sniper kill was made by a Canadian in 2002 or 2003 (in Afghanistan). I remember reading an interview with the guy in a Canadian newspaper but I can't seem to find the article now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McMillan_Tac-50 Quote: Two Canadian snipers in Afghanistan made the longest recorded sniper kill in history with this weapon during Operation Anaconda. On a March afternoon in 2002, the Master Corporal Arron Perry killed an enemy combatant from 2,310 meters (2,526 yd/1.435 miles) and the Corporal Rob Furlong of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) killed an enemy combatant from 2,430 meters (12.0772 furlongs/2,657 yd/1.509 miles) with 750 grain Hornady A-MAX very-low-drag bullets.[2][3] It is the longest-ever recorded kill by a sniper in combat, surpassing the mark of 2,286 meters set by U.S. Marine Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock during the Vietnam War. |

Yes, a canadian sniper killed an enemy at 2650 yards, BUT it took multiple shots before he connected An American in Afghanistan, SFC Nick Ransatad made a 2300 yard shot where the very first round successfully hit the enemy, giving the true sniper's 'one shot one kill' result. This Scott made a 1650 or so yard shot. The only way I can see this line Quote: 25-year-old Scottish Corporal Christopher Reynolds set a new record for longest kill in the war in Afghanistan being true if it really means 'set a new record FOR SCOTTLAND for longest kill. |
