Do most places around here negotiate prices at all? Gunstop, Frontiersman, etc.

On used items, yes has been my experience. On new items, no. Some are more open to dicker than others, but it never hurts to ask.

GunStop seems to have a set formula for all new guns. I've seen them check the book, get out a calculator, and then write the price in the book with a sharpie.

That said, their prices are generally pretty good.

I actually just picked up a gun today (XD) at DK mags (side note: small store, but very friendly guys). I've been shopping around and they had a good price for a new one. From what I found stay away from the bigger stores like bill's (sticker price was $100 more than I paid). I believe Metro Pawn and Gun will deal (they are a pawn shop), but from what I've seen it's probably because their guns are priced quite high initially, so make sure you know the value of the gun you're looking for.

Well, for whatever it's worth, MSRP and the actual asking price may be far, far apart.

I noticed that the new Ruger LCR was described in one of the magazines as having a suggested retail of something like $750, but a dealer at a recent gunshow had a new one for over $200 less than that, and this is a dealer who has never struck me as having the lowest prices in town. (The magazine was either "American Rifleman," or "Handguns," I think.)

So I'm thinking that prices are, shall we say, somewhat spongey. But I know that a dealer having a dramatically lower price than MSRP does not mean he will come down even a dollar, but it's still good to know.

A few years ago (6? 8?), I bought a new Kimber .45 ProCarry. Bill's didn't have one but would order it; $700. I went to the place in Blaine - can't recall the name any more - they wanted a bit less, maybe $650 (can't remember that, either). I had started at Gunstop before I went elsewhere. I went back to Howard (God rest his soul!) and bought it there for $559.

The local guy (in Willmar) will negotiate a bit but he starts a little higher than the metro stores. This, I think, is understandable, as competition is less and his volumes may be lower, resulting in less discount from distribution or manufacturers.

If a shop is insulted by you asking for a lower price, they should close the doors.

I always ask for a "handicapped discount" for a poor crippled guy. Usually it doesn't work.

Never works at the prosthetic shop.

Sometimes I ask if there's a discount for cash. Most often there isn't, even though not using a credit card saves them a few percent. So I'll use the Cabela's card and get the pernts.

Every gun on display for sale at a gun show is negotiable.
Especially on Sunday afternoon if you are holding crisp, new hundred dollar bills.

Fine, .224

Seriously, nice gun. Those are LOTS of fun to shoot, IMO. Tons of bang and flash (it WILL get attention at the range), no recoil beyond what a dang pellet gun puts out, and accurate as anyone could want.
