Quote: the barrel and forearm are much better on the Colt (I do not like the cheap looking barrel on the SW and I am not a fan of all the rails on the SW forearm), the Colt has a forward assist (functional or not, it just looks right). The barrel on the colt is a steel sleeve pressed into the M4 profile outer barrel. It seems to work fine and is supposed to be accurate. My only concern would be: will the two different metals contract at different rates on one of those frosty below zero January squirrel hunts.? If so will it affect accuracy? I don't know The barrel in the S&W is a match grade barrel built by Thompson/Center. As far as the forward assist goes, S&W probably left it off on purpose. Slamming the rim of a rimfire cartridge to attempt to force it into the chamber would not be very smart. I know its non-functional on the Colt but I can see some bubba going:"Here, hold my beer. I'll fix it so its like the real thing". |

Quote: Some us think that misguided little piece should never have been put there in the first place on any AR. Yup. If the round won't chamber, give them a way to jam it in the chamber even harder. And then try to get the stuck, live round out. Keep the chamber clean. |

It looks like Ruger has joined the bandwagon, mating the ever reliable 10/22 with an AR lookalike housing. It doesn't look as close to the real thing as the Colt and S&W offerings but there should be no questions about the reliability or accuracy of the firearm. MSRP is $625. A factory Ruger SR-556 / Mini-14 flash suppressor is installed. The Ruger SR-22 image from the review at: The Firearm Blog http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UdcBaYqeww&feature=player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EwwgGwCrDE&NR=1 Here are the specifications: http://www.ruger.com/SR22/pdf/SpecSheet.pdf Of course one could purchase the "Archangel Advanced rimfire system for the 10/22" and do it yourself. ($189) OR the Nordic Components Ruger AR22 Receiver Stock Kit if you have an existing 10/22 ($224). This will allow the use of your choice of butt stock, free float forearm tube and hand grip. It's a little bit more expensive going this route. Another review with a good video is here: http://www.downrange.tv/blog/?p=768 |
