May I suggest a Springfield Armory 1911A1 'EMP' in .45ACP or 9mm. :twisted:

Small, easy to conceal, but packs a big punch (when needed).

they also pack a big price tag.... however if i could afford one id be buying it. the important thing to remeber is that there is no single handgun that will fit every carry need. i have found it necessary to have a few different handguns and holsters. different guns and carry methods for different perceived threat levels and different social situations.

Trust me, I understand the 'big price tag'. :?

But how much is the significant other/spouse worth?

I understand that a 'expensive gun' isn't gonna be the 'fix all' for every situation, but.........a dependable one just may.

Myself, I'd be looking for the 'best bang for the buck'. :wink:

Requirements:

1. Dependability!
2. Accuracy!
3. Ammo availability
4. Ammo cost

Just my .02 cents worth. :wink:

Springfield Armory has (from what I've read...never had to use them myself), one of the best reputations in the industry as far as dependability & warranty/customer service (if W/CS is needed).

totally agreed

i like taurus firearms quite abit myself, but as noted above i own other makes as well.

just keep in mind the paying a lot of money doesnt neccesarily mean its the best gun ( im not saying thats what you said).

alot of really good firearms can be had for a meager price. the most important thing is that it fits the hand of the user well, that its reliable, and that you have it when you need it.

I'm new to the firearm game but my Stoeger Cougar (.40 cal) fits the criteria for which you asked. Polymer frame, steel slide, DA/SA with a decocker and under $500. Barrel is 3 1/2 inches and I use a CrossBreed IWB and it conceals well. Beretta bought Stoeger and sent their machining equipment for their Beretta Cougar to Stoeger (Turkey) for them to make the gun. It's available in .40 cal or 9mm. I've got about 600 rounds through it , WWB, Blazer Aliuminum, Magtech, Remington. I've had no FTF's or FTE's. My son who is a LEO in St. Louis said it shot well when he tried it out the last time he was back visiting. He's a Glock man. I've posted a link below.

The rotating barrel system used in these is really slick. Beretta still uses it for the PX4 Storm pistols.

Cuts recoil and muzzle flip way down, and almost causes the gun to automatically return to the same place each time for follow up shots.

Mrs Tman ordered herself an XD 9 Sub-Compact in duotone. She borrowed one from a co-worker on Tuesday and we took it for a test drive. Mrs T comfortably shot some decent groups and didn't have any recoil issues to speak of. She also liked the passive safeties.

Mrs Tman is now on the invevitable holster hunt. For now, she's thinking a Galco belly band, and the hunt for some other form of on-body carry will continue. The mix of women's clothing styles and her own preferences is sure to make this a long, drawn-out affair. (Did I just say that out loud? :oops: )

I've been eyeing the XD's forever, too and will be picking one up as a "rental" for my classes.

At least when we travel by plane now, it won't matter which bag I declare....

Although there is variety of excellent semi-autos out there I don't think Mrs. tman065 will be disapointed in her selection of the XD 9 Sub-Compact, it has a reputation as a fine weapon. You might look up Srigs for some holster options. The Mrs. may find the holster shopping as much fun as the search for the right gun. :D

Don't give up on the HK USP compact. I wish I had never sold that gun. And with the added benefit that it can be set up in several different variants to meet her exact needs for a decocker. For that matter look at some of the newer HK pistols. They are very good as well.
