Be the first human in MN to be attacked by a cougar. “There has never been a reported case of a cougar attacking a human in Minnesota, police said.” I always like it when police tell you to “supervise your children” as if that is going to stop a cougar from dragging your 3 year old into the woods.

My son dates them and says this is good advice:

«Do not run away, turn away or bend down.»

That's because back when we used to have cougars, we used to shoot at them every time we saw them. So they were skittish. And, of course, the woods were full of off-leash dogs, and off-leash ten-year-olds with their shotguns, and generally, the woods around our settled communities were generally uncomfortable places for wildlife.

That's changed. The cougars that are moving into our wood plots aren't afraid of people. And they need to be.

Like they said on the radio - I thought the only cougars in the metro were at the Galleria.

We had the feline version around our sub division two winters ago, killed a deer right on the edge of our pond. DNR came out and said without picture or their observation evidence(foot prints were not good enough) it would go in the books as a coyote or wolf kill, becuase we don't have cougars in the metro.

So in the DNR's mind by claiming we don't have one here then that proves we don't. He also suggested shooting it would get me in big trouble, so I mentioned it is hard to shoot something that does not exist.

Typical government employee, tell the people what they want, ignore the facts and everyone is suppose to feel better.

While I'm not saying we are being overrun with them, it is pretty obvious the stray one or two do exist around the cities.

a woman not to far from where i live had some horses attacked by a cougar about 8 yrs ago. dnr told her the same thing we dont have cougars, it was a coyote. one of my parents neighbors had a black bear rip the side down on their dog kennel a few rounds of 12 gauge birdshot chased the bear away. when he called the dnr the responding officer told him it couldnt have been a bear they dont come this far south. that was last fall i geuss even eye witness accounts and footprints as well as the damage done to the kennel are not enuff to verify a bear doing that.

I remember growing up in Plymouth before all the development; we'd get warning all the time not to leave our pets out and to be cautious and alert when walking or jogging at night. The warning were for cougars spotted at ElmCreek Golf Course, Hollydale and occasionally Hampton Hills.

Yeah, isn't it pretty much commonly accepted by everyone but the DNR that we have a population of them living along the river valley??
