I'm trying to find statistics by year for causes of death in the US by year. I would assume the CDC would be the best place for this data but try as I might I can't seem to get anything meaningful off the CDC site. I've used the search function here as well trying to get some information. Why do I want this, I'm just curious actually. Partly because I would like to know the stats as far as what things have a higher or lower rate of deaths per year in the US. For example, drunk driving/auto accidents, drowning, disease, getting hit by lightning, bowling accidents (j/k), etc. I think this information would also be useful when talking to people who are so sure that gun deaths are so high on the list, statistically. Any pointers for how to find this type of information broken down by cause and year? Thanks.

Yup -- I'm a big fan of WISQARS, and use it often:

Thank you both! That looks like and excellent resource to find exactly what I'm looking for. I did a quick search for the most recent years they had information for and as I suspected and have heard/read that numbers of firearm related deaths typically fall far below many other causes of death (motor vehicle, drowning, poisoning, etc). Thanks again.
