Armed Man Robs Busy Mpls. Bank
Investigators are looking for a man who held up a busy Minneapolis bank right across the street from our KSTP studios.

The FBI said a man, wearing a bandana over his face, held up the Wells Fargo on University Avenue, just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The man headed straight for the teller and demanded cash. He displayed what looked like a handgun wrapped in duck tape.

The FBI said he stuffed the cash into his sweatshirt pocket and ran.

He was last seen walking west on University Avenue SE.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery should contact the Minneapolis FBI at 612-376-3200, the Minneaplis Police Department, or Crime Stoppers.

A reward is being offered.

anyone else hear this. what kind of handgun functions properly when wrapped in duct tape? must have been trying to keep them from identifying his gun :?: :?

That one is a frequent target, as the nearby freeway makes for a fast getaway.

"Duck" tape is used between the toes in order to make feet "webbed".

"Duct" tape is something altogether different.

It was originally developed for patching leaks in the hulls of the old DUKW amphibious trucks.

Just another showing of the degradation of the English language. Problem is, there is a brand of duct tape called "Duck" tape, so that doesn't really help any.

Well, you'd be surprised... Most bank's cameras are up high and pointed at a downward angle. Cameras positioned like that are great for catching tellers stuffing cash into their pockets, but are pretty useless when it comes to getting a good photograph of the crook. If the crook wears a hat and is careful to keep his head pointed down, you won't get a good photograph from the camera.

Money tracking? Of the banks I've worked at as a teller, we ran some "marked" bills--they were kept separate from our regular cash so we wouldn't give them out accidentally (we had to keep logs of the serial #'s). I don't really know how effective "marked" bills are, since all the "marking" consisted of is writing the serial # down. How does the average gas station clerk know one specific $20 is "marked" when it gets spent somewhere down the line?

But overall, it's a federal offense, so you get investigated by the FBI. Not something I'd want.

Well, for wrapping the occasional duck of course. (sorry, someone had to)

Hopefully the guy who wrapped up the cat will know what to use if he branches out into wrapping ducks.

I wonder how well the slide would work all taped up? 1 shot max out of that gun.

By the way:
