My good friend, the Old Dude, and I have been chatting from time to time about our "next purchase". Me, I tend to do the proverbial window shopping on an hourly basis, and change my mind about as often. Heck, that is part of the fun.

But, I am curious how much other folks emphasize wants and needs in their purchase equation, so...a little poll.

Hmm,

First I buy what I need, then I buy what I can afford.

In terms of guns or in terms of guns relative to other stuff or just everything in general?

For me, it's simple.

If I want it, I need it.

How many guns do I own?

More than I need.

Less than I want.

I think I can make a good argument for close-to-needing three carry guns. One for carry, one to carry in the wake of using the first (at which point it's likely to be in police custody for awhile), and a third as insurance.

I've got, err, more than that.

Hehe, unfortunately, my budget doesn't quite allow all the want guns, but I'm working on it. I'm justifying to myself a fair number of gun purchases.

For carry guns: 1 for carry around people, 1 for better concealment, 1 for deep concealment. Then, I'm getting into the "one for pretty deep concealment but still a nice powerful round" type of arguments.

Three? Three of each kind maybe. And you NEED a full-sized winter-carry gun, a pocket carry gun, and a smaller summer belt-carry gun as well as a truck gun, a "home defense" gun and a "cabin defense" gun.

And that's just for social use. FUN is a whole different ball-game.

Edit: I almost forgot, you NEED a CQC -"SHTF" shotgun, "SHTF" rifle, and at least one rifle that can "reach out and touch" someone.

That means you NEED 27 guns MINIMUM if you go with three copies of each.

I'm still too much of a caliber junkie, which means I really have to find not only a couple of guns, but all the reloading dies, supplies, cases, etc. I'm still not fully fleshed out in .44 yet.

I'd like a couple of .41 mags -- a blued 57, perhaps one in nickel and one in stainless. And then a pocket auto, and maybe even a J frame, too. A Dan Wesson CBOB in 10mm if they start making them run right, and another Kimber Stainless Target but in .38 Super to match my one in 10mm. And the philistine in me would also like to have a Desert Eagle in .44 mag as well.

I think that will probably keep me busy and broke for the time being.

I'm trying to limit the number of calibers to keep in stock so that limits me to an extent. And I try to have a "purpose" for each new gun (usually). That said, theres a few that I want and am trying to find the $ to get. The amusing thing is that most of them are revolvers (I tend to prefer auto's).
