I thought it might be fun to have a "women's only" handgun class this Saturday...essentially the NRA First Steps, but with no guys there to intimidate the gals, and lots of guns to try.

I had free press in both the local and also the Fargo papers...they are very good about promoting safety training etc. This good press has been out and about for some two weeks now.

Not a single call, or e-mail, or registrant. I find this fascinating in that it must mean that our tundra gals are already tough and packing!

Just as well...we are having unexpected company this weekend so the lack of strange ladies handling guns is probably a good deal. But...then again...there is something attractive about a pistol packing mama.
:D

It's an interesting sociological and gender outcome.

I think to reach the women, you'll have to go through men -- maybe have a "couples only" session where female companions get in free or something. You'll get some women who wouldn't be there unless their partners came, and some who wanted to, but felt intimidated.

I wonder if your results would have been the same if it had been well known that the instructor was female; sometimes the gender-on-gender appeal works better. No matter how good looking Brad Pitt is, you don't see him pitching hair color or tampons.

Offering a free class to the spouse is an interesting idea. It might be the way to get more female shooters.

On the flip side, I think people don't value what they don't pay for, so that certificate may end up in a drawer.

Hmmmm. Gonna have to think on this one.

Well, at least you'd have them in the room for the day. I'd think being happy with ONE woman who ended up with a permit out of the bunch would be a raging success.
