If you lived in the locale that would be a nice price...but, add shipping and local FFL and you are likely in the $420+ range.

I have one (paid $399 at Scheels). Last week in Fargo Scheels the price was $419.

Nice guns, terrible sights.

Fair warning alert. If you have not had a 1911 and are contemplating this bare bones model as a starting point to customize, consider starting with a higher end model.

I decided I did not like the Parkerized finish or the sights and (a) had the sights replaced, and (b) the gun refinished in a absolutely beautiful deep blued surface. But, that cost me $250. For that price, I probably should have started at a higher end model with the finish and sights that I preferred. But, the gun really is pretty now. :)

I visited the web site at it is not $384, it is $348, and that is an excellent price!

I wonder if this is a pre-emptive sale now that the Taurus 1911 is soon coming out and likely will be a big competitor on the lower cost 1911's.

Also, Springfield is coming out with a .45ACP XD model also....

2006 might be a very fun .45 year :)

well, if my Taurus PT-100 is any example of Taurus' quality, I'd pass on anything made by Taurus. A NIB gun should NOT have a loose barrel !!!

No idea, except it is advertised in some of the current gun magazines, so if one were to speculate...perhaps next month?? I would certainly consider a 5" model. It is not listed on thier web site as of 12-15-05.

Oops. For someone who can pay attention to detail, I don't seem to do it that much...

Re the XD .45. Gallery of Guns has them listed on their web site as "allocated"; 4" model has a MSRP of $559.

I assume it will become official at the SHOT Show.

Did they or do they make a .45 GAP XD?
I have the .40S&W myself, and I stopped following their development after I got it. But I thought I heard of one in that caliber.

As they say in MN, oh yeah, sure you betcha. I believe they have them in the 4 and 5 inch models in various colors, but in short supply. No word yet on the 3", but the Glock 39 ( .45GSP) is sweet, even if it kicks a bit.

Even better news their custom shop will work on the XD actions for you, fixing pull weight and the tricky trigger reset, which I find to be an issue. Just saw a nice one in one of the gun rags, but the custom grip among other things means you will not be using it in IDPA.

I was looking at the stainless, which is just barely more. When I was looking, the parkerized was more. I don't see myself throwing a bunch at customizing one...but you never know. My friend (I run all my ideas by) is definately not a fan of it. I still want to try it in a way. I was really staring to look at compact 1911s until I heard so many issues (sadly, all internet reading...taking opinions of people I will never meet.) with the compacts.

I'm in no hurry...maybe I should wait on some of these new offerings.

$348 for a Springfield 1911?

Um, I think I need one to properly demonstrate single-action autos in class, honey.

Really. It's a business expense!

I like the GI Series 1911s just as they are.. old fashioned, tiny sights and all. It's a replica gun, after all.

Springfield is able to keep the price down on these, I think, because the frames are made in Brazil.
