I have been noticing lately that every now and then the forum site takes a long time to post a message or go to a new page. Sometimes the browser times out and is unable to display any forums pages for 20+ minutes.
Have other people been having this problem, or do I need to yell at my ISP again?

I've noticed delays in bringing up links to pages.
I'm a network consultant and this forum is a great timewaster when I'm watching a progress bar at a client site, and I've seen this delay at many different client sites, so its not specific to my ISP at home.
Is this site shared-hosted or on a dedicated box? Maybe the other box tenants are beating up the disk or something.

I would guess share-hosted.

I feel better now! Talking to my ISP's tech support (located in India) is a pain and they just blame my equiptment anyway, not that they do anything but read scripts off their pc.

I've noticed the lag, too. When I experience the lag, I open up a new browser and check my other forums or some website. They pop right up. This is a server-side issue. Not sure what. One forum I used to belong to acted like this and it turned out to be a virus in someone's avatar.

Oh, good!
Thanks, I thought it was mine connection. It was driving me nuts.
I ran the BroadStar test. It came to 4844 kbps download and 620 kbps upload. I assume that this is a decent speed.

Is this site shared-hosted or on a dedicated box? Maybe the other box tenants are beating up the disk or something. It's share-hosted; having a dedicated box is a lot more expensive, and I haven't -- at least, not yet -- seen the need. If it becomes a more pervasive and repetitive problem, we'll have to see, but it would mean going up to a $395/month plan, or moving away from DreamHost. (Hosting it myself would be a possibility, sure, but that would mean a lot more expense for commercial-grade connectivity at home.)
Please do keep me advised of delays; if the problems are frequent enough, DreamHost will probably move twincitiescarry.com to a different (shared) server.

Joel,
They should be able to set you up with a dedicated NIC bound to a single IP address for a reasonable price, you might ask, it can't hurt.

It's been apparent for the last couple of weeks something is going on with the host/ server. I should have spoken up when I first noticed it. We don't want the same thing happening as what happened to packing.org.

Sounds like those of us that aren't going anywhere need to hit the tip jar for a server upgrade.
Unless we expect Joel to start charging extra for the classes

Any updates?
This lag is causing me to reminisce about my days on dialup.
