Isnt it fun to be an older brother?!?! LOL
Quote: Boy, 9, locked in gun safe by his brotherstory linkMarch 15, 2009 CHICAGO, March 15 (UPI) -- A 9-year-old boy was temporarily trapped in a gun safe inside a suburban Chicago store by his brother, officials said. Officials in Hoffman Estates, Ill., told the Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald the boy was stuck in the safe for nearly 20 minutes while firefighters sought a way to open the locked box. The boy apparently was locked inside the safe at Cabela's recreation goods store after his brother forced him into it and spun the locking mechanism once the door was closed. Fire Lt. Jay Martino was eventually able to free the boy after using another safe's keypad to open the door of the safe containing the child. The identity of the boys, along with the age of the child's brother, was not reported. The Daily Herald said the child was able to breathe inside of the safe, which was estimated to be 5 feet tall, 3 feet wide and 18 inches deep.

The story makes it sound like the code/authentication stuff is stored on the removeable code entry faceplate. That would be so incredibly insecure and and obvious that even engineers could catch it.

Think BIG!
This wouldn't happen if evil guns were outlawed for then these life threatening gun safes wouldn't be necessary.

For the safety of all children gun safes should be filled to the brim with guns so that kids can not fit inside.

Some of the story doesn't make sense...
First of all they said "spun the locking mechanism once the door was closed" which would be a combination lock in most cases. Some electronic locks have a ring that controls lock bolt, or a auto relocking system.
Most of the stores have the codes for their safes readily accessible too. Maybe the keypad was just damaged or its batteries were dead?
Even if the store didn't have the code, a call to the manufacture and the serial number on the safe would get you the code it left the factory with.

we had a walk in cooler at the camp my dad ran. I put a ball point pen in the latch after my brother had snuck in to sneak a fudgecicle. A half hour late i remembered he was still in there.
I got the spanking. He are a whole box of ice cream on a stick.
