Ok, I'm gauging interest in a holster making get together at my place.

Prospective time is Monday 02/26/07 from 7:30p - midnight.

I will set it up a bit different than last time so we should have room for 5-6 people to work if a couple guys bring card tables / chairs.. 2 of those spaces are taken by myself and a lurker so 4 more people are welcome oto work and others are welcome to heckle until it gets out of hand.

I'm certainly not qualified to hold a holster making clinic but between those of us that show up, the very basics could be discussed and you could try a simple design or at least get ideas if you like.

I live in the Rosedale / Roseville area if it makes a difference.
let me know if you're interested.

I'm interested, but I'd be late- I have a gig that night.

I'm interested, but have not done it before so what inventory and supplies do I need to secure beforehand?

An awl. Tandy has them. It seems to be the one item everyone is using at once and so would be pretty hard to share. If you're not making a presentation project, you could probably use my round wood work awl and a hammer / board backer.

You can have some of my leather ( I have some lighter weight and some medium weight) to use for your first project as long as it's not an AR case :-)

I have some extra waxed sinew and needles .

If you make it to Bloomington, Johan is an incredible source of information. a shoulder of the light to medium weight leather is ~$20 if you get hooked.

Indeed. And she owns a shotgun... :D

+1 to the recommendation of Johan as well. Good guy, *very* knowledgeable about leathercraft, and loves to share his knowledge.

I'd be interested. I've been toying with the idea of an IWB to go along with this one...Image

It's pretty much impossible to find holsters for something this old.

If you've been working the old fashioned way I might be able to win another convert to the leather repair awl too.

I'm hoping to make it - and could bring a card table and a couple chairs too... (but I'll need directions)

was also wondering if anyone was hitting Tandy this weekend - I don't have any knowledge, tools or supplies yet and I have to go north this weekend to help my sister with a plumbing problem. If anybody plans to hit Tandy and would be willing to pick up some of the basics for a rookie let me know...

Jon

OK, I think we have capacity here.

HammAR,
Srigs,
Myself,
Buddy,
White Horseradish (well, ok, maybe but I'm holding his place),
prushin,
tullibee

I'll try to get to Tandy tomorrow over lunch and pick up an extra Awl and some more waxed thread. I'll definitely use it anyway :-)

IF it looks like we're going to be tight on Leather we can always switch to pocket holsters or mag pouches. The main idea is to get the basics of wet forming and stitching down and come away with something useful. We can hold more of these things in the future too.

Disclaimer: None of us is terribly experienced at this. Srigs, my buddy, and I were all in the recent class at Tandy. Maybe I can convince JBColt45 to come. He has some nice holsters. Mine are functional and I'm enjoying learning but his are very nice.

I'll be working on a couple of new holsters for my M60. I'll also bring my gear so we can get people started. :)

I doubt we'll run low on leather. I was planning to bring the shoulder I was going to hack on for an IWB. I'll have to look in my leather box to verify quantities, but I'm pretty sure I've also got rivets, snaps, and a few clips to go along with awls and punches.

That Tandy place is as bad as a gun shop...

I went in for an awl and some thread... I left with a bag full of stuff.

Srigs: My buddy A asked me to buy him a 4 hole diamond punch ;-)

We should be set for Monday. Please bring what portable reasonable tools you have to share and mark your tools some how so you don't end up swapping unintentionally :-)

Seeya all there.
