I'm glad they are the only ones qualified to carry guns. Not only that, why would he feel the need to be armed in a "gun free zone"?

An off-duty Meridian Township police officer who left his loaded handgun in a law school bathroom will remain on active duty while an internal investigation is conducted.

Sgt. Scott Dawson, who is a Cooley Law School student, left the weapon in a bathroom Sunday while he was at the school for academic reasons. An unidentified person found the weapon and turned it in to a school official.

Meridian Township police Chief David Hall says the incident violated the department's operating procedure and the one-week investigation will determine if any other infractions occurred.

He said Dawson, who has been with the department for about 14 years, has the authority to carry his weapon when off-duty.

Cooley officials could not be reached for comment.
