I've heard just enough tales like 1911Fans to maybe back off my desire to own one, unless of course I find one locally I can put my hands on and inspect it (although how the heck you'd ID the bent crane that only shows up after firing I don't know).

yeah, that was a bummer gun, I have to say it was really the worst firearm i have ever bought as far as QC was concerned. Had I been a bit more comfortable with the seller of the gun, i would have refused it and had him send it back. But as it was, i had sort of pestered him to order it, and I felt like i had no options
It really felt like it was a parts gun, that they had stopped making them, they had several baskets of parts laying around and decided what the heck, lets run another batch.
