The Speer short barrel rounds are labled: 38 SPL+P 135 gr. GDHP part number on box: 23921 There are some similar Speer 125 gr, but those are not the "short barrel" rounds. The old "FBI" load, 158 gr lead Semi-wadcutters, (available from Remington in standard and +P loads) and Federal 158 gr Hydra Shocks are still the standard that 38 Special rounds are measured against. They are still my choice for my 642/442. In the Metro, Streichers is probably the best bet to find those. I did find both at Gander Mountain. Use a lighter load for practice in a 642. All the above have enough recoil that you won't want to shoot more than dozen rounds in that light of a handgun. |
