Funding state government
Published (3/12/2007)
A nonbinding concurrent resolution (HCR2) sponsored by Rep. Loren Solberg (DFL-Grand Rapids), lays out the projected price of government [a measure of the cost of all general government services statewide] for the 2008-09 biennium at 16%. It was passed 85(DFL) -48(R) by the House, and awaits Senate action.
The state began tracking these numbers in 1992-93, when it showed the price of government at 17.1 cents on the dollar, later dropping to a low of 15 cents in 2002-2003. During the 2006-07 biennium, it is 16.4 cents. For the 2008-09 biennium, residents could be spending approximately 16 cents for state and local services combined.
State and Local . . . . . . . . . . . . . 16%
Federal (income, gas, etc.) . . . . 30%
Total (NLT) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 46%
For you: about 1/2 of what you earn.
