With a .50 BMG I think you'd be picking up pieces of elk.

If money were no object ... I'd have a rifle made just for me. Not just assembled, but made. By a gun maker.
Something that would be measured and balanced specifically for my height, weight, and proportions.
Something in a single shot, because I love it's simplicity.
Something in .243, because that's the biggest round I can shoot without hurting my shoulder.
Something with adjustable open sights, because I enjoy the challenge.
And something in Turkish walnut and a blued barrel, because I'm old fashioned.
Great topic --- thanks! Now I need a cold shower ...

And oddly enough, they had one on display over at Bill's Robbinsdale, and apparently some of the machining for the 408's is done right here in Minneapolis.
As a second place, which is less expensive but even cooler, would be an MP-5 SMG in 10mm caliber.

Aw man, the list is very long.
Are we talking just money no object or money and regulatory concerns?
.50 BMG certainly tops the list. There may be better ballistics, but I've got plenty of experience playing with that little delight.

Maybe a Lazzeroni in 7.21 Firebird. Perhaps the flattest shooting commercial load available. Not long ago I read an article about 1000 yard shooting and the Firebird was consistently fastest to the 1000 yrd plate. That speed and hardware comes at a pretty steep price though.
At least the ammo is only $60.00 per box. (20)

heh heh, yep! But I was staying with my self imposed 7mm size. (For no reason. )

More fool you! Any rifle, regardless of cost.

Ah, yes. I concede the point.
For 1000+ yard energies the Chey - Tac 408 is very impressive.
