I've been doing a little 'Net research today, trying to figure out how I'm going to conceal my Sig in a Blackhawk CWC holster.

Anybody here have good experiences with concealment vests? A brief search of the fora showed that Joel has used them (and may still).

How about a Galco Waistpack (don't need the Blackhawk with this)?

Both of these methods seem like they would work quite well year-round in the midwest.

Any experiences/anecdotes out there?

I have a Galco Waistpack. I like the fanny pack and how it carries the gun and is quick to open. I think the belt is too narrow. It should be at least 1/2 to 1 inch wider to stabalize the fanny pack more.

I have a Bianchi 4410 Top Secret Fanny Pack Holster for my Sig 229.

Rides nice, the strap is wide enough to keep it from biting in, the gun is easy to get to and held pretty firmly.

Only problem I have with fanny packs is they just SCREAM GUN! - one big enough to hold a 229 is a fairly large size. But on the other hand no one has stopped me at the State Fair to ask what is in the pack. As well as at various Scout Camps. It has its place among my other holsters.

Bathroom stops are pretty simple since one can just rotate the pack around to the side.

I use vests a lot. Right now, the 511 vest is, I think, the obvious choice -- reasonably inexpensive, sturdy, lots of options. (I've got a no-longer-made high end photographer's vest I like better -- it's a little longer, and has more pockets. But it's a covering garment, and not a carry garment -- the 511 has pockets and optional [meaning you gotta buy them, too] accessories for carrying in the vest.)

There's also the leather vests that have carry pockets. Those don't work very well for me, largely because I've got not only a large gut, but a long torso.

Well, my CQC broke on Thursday, after only 5 days of use! I was at my car, and removing my backpack to put it in the passenger seat. As I lowered the backpack, one of the straps must have caught on the holster. All I know is, I heard a *crack*, and when I checked the holster, the paddle-mount was broken.

Thankfully, I was not carrying at the time -- my sidearm was locked in the car -- so there was nothing to fall on the ground.

Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed. I went straight to Bill's Shooting Range for the Thursday night defensive handgun league, and got there early enough to return the CQC and get a Galco leather OWB holster instead.

The Galco actually seems to be easier to conceal, so much so that I'm no longer concerned about printing, or needing a special concealment garment.

And let me say something more about my new Sig. I shot better on Thursday night (401 out of 420 possible points), than I *ever* did with my Beretta, or with any other gun I've tried. My Beretta 92 is a fine handgun -- but apparently the Sig is a much more natural fit for my hands, posture, and overall shooting style. Plus, the Sig's trigger pull is lighter and shorter, making it easier to squeeze off each round.
