Melting a crayon into the engravings of your firearm to make them stand out...

Looks pretty neat and can be easily removed.

Does not last all that long, but you can carry a yellow lettered Glock one day, red the next, change to a more formal white for dinner, then let your significant other color in pink or green or ...

Useful, nah......fun to kill some time? Sure. I took a newish GLock to the local range all pink'ed out. I told the fellows that all non-law enforcement came that way now .... had them going for quite a while....

I did that with my Walther P1. Rubs off eventually, especially when cleaning. If you try it and get a little crayon around the letters instead of only inside them, you can take a soft cloth with a little gun oil on it and gently wipe over the engraving. You'll only wipe off the excess on the gun, leaving the indented letters/numbers full of the white crayon. Real pretty, especially when taking pics to use for bragging on the net.

As if I need something else to do.

In the opposite vein, I used spray painter's "gun Cleaner" to dissolve the ink or paint that was in my S&W 1911 that had the first gen Bill board style roll mark.

I've been doing that for many years. Over the years, I've only had to reapply once to the slide of a Glock that got shot a lot. The secret was, in my case, using a hair dryer, which causes the wax to melt into the stamps, and then a quick wipe with a soft cloth. The red color defining the "Fire" selection on my AR looks good, too. Thanks Crayola!

The only thing I didn't see mentioned, wouldn't you want to degrease the area using a form of gun scrub or brake cleaner? Or is that a mute point because I would think the crayon in maybe oil based?

Any comment vfrdirk?

I really want to try this on my STI Trojan, nice big lettering on the frame to show off.

I'm gonna head to the store and get some crayons. Going to do white on my Glock and gold on my Beretta. If all goes well I'll try to get some pics posted.

I was thinking about my AR-15 also. White RRA emblem on the magazine well. White "safe" and red "fire" would be pretty sweet.

I'll just start with one pistol and see how it turns out.

You can get lacquer sticks from Brownell's that last longer.

Man, does that look cool...plus it's cheap and easy to remove if you don't like it. I'm also going to give this a try on my XD40 sub-compact. There are some really neat examples in the XDtalk forum link above.

I think it would be worth degreasing the area first with some gun scrubber or the like. I tend to wipe the slide down with a silicon cloth on a regular basis to get that nice shine, but that might have a negative effect on the crayon "adhering" to the slide, so I'll get it nice and clean first. Being an electronics nerd, I have a heat gun that I use for shrink tubing on wire...I think that might work better than using a lighter or a torch to heat up the lettering on the slide. Lighters tend to leave a black, sooty film behind.

The crayons I bought didn't have gold so I had to do the Beretta with white. I think they turned out pretty decent. The red on the left side of the AR-15 lower needs to be touched up a bit.

HK's are already "colored"...........
